Cavity cry

Yup, I'm a bad mommy.  I have a theory, that any night you can make your kid cry at bedtime is a good night.  What? Oh, am I the only one?  It happens often enough that I thought I was supposed to get joy from it.

No, I don't really enjoy it.

But Monkey through a fit tonight, and didn't want to brush her teeth.  I used my best Mom voice, and instructed her first that it was not negotiable, she's been brushing her own teeth each and every night since she was 3, she's not about to stop now.  She still dug in her heels, so I asked her what would happen if she didn't brush her teeth.  After claiming not to know (even though we have this conversation every few months) I made the horrible mistake of informing her that unbrushed teeth lead to bad breath and cavities.  "Cavities? What's Cavities?"  Yes, I've told her before, but I still had to tell her yet again that a  cavity is a hole in your tooth, and the dentist will have to drill that tooth and fill it up with metal or ceramic, or anything they can think of to protect it.

Of course, she bursts into tears, horrible tragic sobs, actually, wailing that she doesn't want a dentist to drill in her teeth.  Because we all know that when mom tells you the consequences of failure to do something, then crying about it is clearly the best way to avoid both the consequences and the undesired behavior in the first place.
